RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary Janet Davies said EU staff, like those from other countries, make a huge contribution to patient care in the UK and were “absolutely essential”.
She also reassured all nursing staff about the immediate future.
“Many nurses from EU countries will be understandably concerned by the implications of the vote, but they should be reassured that we do not expect any changes to be made for some time,” said Janet.
“Their UK colleagues should also be assured that their team members from the EU, who are a highly valued lifeline for the NHS, are not subject to any change in their status in the near future.”
The RCN will continue to press for fair treatment for all nursing staff and for a secure long-term supply of staff to keep patient care safe.
