Young people are to be given an introduction to potential careers in nursing and the NHS.
The scheme will combine guided learning with clinical placements at local health care providers and will initially be open to 18 cadets aged 16 to 25. Once cadets have successfully completed the scheme, they will be offered a guaranteed interview for a health care support worker role in Wales.
Dame Professor Donna Kinnair, RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary, said: “We hope this new scheme will give some of our finest young people, especially those from less privileged backgrounds, a taste of what they can offer our profession – and what it can give them in return.”
The scheme is being piloted across Wales, in partnership with the Army Cadet Force, with a view to wider UK rollout in the future.
