Urine Tests

Urine tests are essential for providing information to assist in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of a wide range of diseases and conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, liver problems and numerous other metabolic conditions.

The most common use of urinalysis is to detect substances or cells in the urine that point to different disorders.

The urinalysis tests will check various levels including:

  • Acidity, or pH. If the acid is abnormal, you could have kidney stones, a urinary tract infection (UTI), or another condition.
  • Protein. Abnormal protein levels can be a sign your kidneys aren’t functioning correctly.
  • Glucose – commonly used for diabetes checks
  • White blood cells – present in urinary tract and kidney infections
  • Nitrites – also a sign of urinary tract infections
  • Bilirubin – excess levels can signify problems with liver function
  • Blood in your urine – causes include kidney stones, UTIs, kidney damage and possibly cancer.

The most common use of urinalysis is to detect substances or cells in the urine that point to different disorders.

Urinalysis can also be used to monitoring diseases such as drug use (for legal purposes or a pre-employment screening).
